About Heart of Midlothian Amateur Swimming Club

At the heart of swimming in Edinburgh since 1885

Founded in 1885, Heart of Midlothian Amateur Swimming Club (Hearts ASC) is one of Edinburgh’s oldest and most successful swimming clubs. For generations, we’ve been helping swimmers of all ages and abilities to develop skills, build confidence, and discover their love of the water.

Our club is built on a strong sense of community and teamwork. We aim to deliver high-quality swimming opportunities for everyone — from those just learning to swim, to competitive athletes training at district, national, and international levels. We believe in creating a positive, family-friendly environment that supports each swimmer’s physical and personal development.

Our Vision

To deliver a range of swimming opportunities for all in a friendly and supportive team setting.
We aim to build a strong team spirit, support all our swimmers to reach their potential, and create a sustainable and financially stable club.

At Hearts, we’re passionate about helping every swimmer achieve their best — whether that means learning to float, mastering a new stroke, or qualifying for a championship final. Our programmes encourage hard work, resilience, and enjoyment, helping swimmers develop lifelong skills both in and out of the pool.

A Club for Every Stage of Swimming

We provide a structured pathway for swimmers as they develop:

– Swim School – for beginners and young swimmers building confidence in the water.

– Development & Competitive Squads – for those moving on from lessons, ready for training and competition.

– Performance Squads – for experienced swimmers aiming for district, national, or international events.

– SwiFT & Masters – for swimmers who want to train for fitness, enjoyment, or competition at their own pace.

Each pathway is supported by experienced coaches, lifeguards, and volunteers who are committed to helping every member reach their goals.
